Major Payers for Home Care Services

Medicaid

A state and federally funded program run by the Missouri Department of Health & Senior Services (DHSS).  Medicaid is available to low income elderly that meet certain income and asset criteria established by the state.  The Family Support Division under DSS is responsible to determine Medicaid eligibility in Missouri.  States have the flexibility to design their own programs, rules and regulations as long as they meet or exceed federal guidelines and requirements.

Social Services Block Grant (SSBG)

A state and federally funded block or lump of money available to the state for certain programs.  In Missouri, the Division of Senior & Disability Services under the Department of Health & Senior Services authorizes the expenditure of SSBG funds for certain home care.  Services provided under SSBG are not subject to specific income and/or asset requirements.

Insurance/Private Pay

Private insurance policies, including Medigap policies, may include home care services or seniors pay for services.
